Management will 'hide' near you or pretend to do something near you when you're with a customer to listen to every word you're saying which is off-putting. There are no security cameras in Build-A-Bear and shoplifters notice this, meaning that you can get very violet people and shoplifters in the store and little is done to prevent it. In the clothing section you are encouraged to bring clothes to the customer and tell them it would look AMAZING on it! For example, when you sit down to stuff someones bear, you CANNOT ask 'would you like a sound in it today' you have to ask 'what sound WOULD YOU LIKE in it today', which I find rude, you also cannot ask if they would like a scent in it, you have to ask 'what scent are we having and walk up to the scents, it's almost like you're selling to the child which is immoral. I worked for Build-A-Bear for 2 years, I started as a Christmas temp, it was an opportunity to be kept on and luckily I was.īuild-A-Bear is a company that encourages you to approach every customer and 'persuade them into buying'. Over Christmas you'll have to stay sometimes over your working hours which is quite difficult for people who got public transport when after a certain time there were no buses for people to get home. It was fun working atmosphere managers would do things to make the working day more fun like who can sell the most bears or who can sell the most stuffers and if you win you get treats like vouchers food and drinks.
